I’m still not back to full time here, but trying to get there. I have booked 2 nights weekly and 1 monthly. My regular singers aren’t back, and I mostly attribute that to the fact I’m not back at my old venues. There’s a few reasons for that. I wish I saw more familiar faces, but the bar scene has always been for people in their 20’s. Taking a year and a half off, I knew I was bound to see new faces and several old ones would have moved on.
So here it is, Feb 1st and I’m adding more new songs to my list. The whole thing is searchable. I’m working on getting that interface a little easier to use. I’m open to suggestions.
Honestly, I’m still conflicted on whether I should even be doing karaoke cause if we’re judging by cases, deaths, and hospitalizations, we’re still very much in a worldwide pandemic of Covid-19. Singing indoors with strangers is a good way to prolong this and probably increase the suffering of everyone. That said, it seems no one else is even considering this, and most of our state is back to “business as usual.” I think I do a good job hosting, and people were asking me to “return,” cause they were already out singing and didn’t like the alternatives. My choices aren’t going to stop people from going out to bars and behaving irresponsibly.
Just for clarity, I haven’t been afraid of Covid for me. I know I’m not young, but looking at the stats, I would probably be fine if I got it. Not everyone fares well with it, and hosting karaoke definitely makes me responsible for some people contracting it and spreading it to others outside the bar. Like everyone I know, I’m vaccinated, and I got a booster 3 weeks ago. I got a vaccine before anyone I know (by volunteering for a clinical trial in July of 2020 and getting my first shot in November 2020), because that’s how we get out of this. Unfortunately, half of the residents of this state are not fully vaccinated.
